ADVANCED EYE TEST IN SOUTH EAST LONDON

Did you know that an eye test isn’t just to check to see if you need spectacles?

It’s to check the overall health of your eyes too, and it can help in the detection of other health conditions also.

Just like you would put a car through a regular MOT and service to check if it’s roadworthy, it’s recommended that you have a sight test as an adult every two years.

Following your eye examination your Optometrist will recommend when your next eye test is due – with some eye and general health conditions they recommend being seen more frequently.

If you require a child’s eye test, please visit our Child’s Vision Clinic page for more details

OCT 3D scans of your eyes

This measure in fine detail important structures within the eye which allows for earlier detection of certain eye conditions including Glaucoma and Macula Degeneration.

WHAT HAPPENS AT AN EYE TEST AT COTON & HAMBLIN?

We understand that eye tests can be daunting if you have never had an eye test before or if you have a vision or eye health concern.

Each eye exam is based on your individual needs, which is tailored as you go through the test, however below is a general guide to the main parts of the eye examination.

Detailed Discussion

The first part of the eye test involves asking you lots of questions to get a better understanding your needs and answer any concerns you might have. We will ask about your reasons for attending, your daily visual needs, general health as well as your eye health and history.

Vision Check

Using a combination of a computerised test chart, wearing plastic frames, and asking your some, your current vision is checked, and a prescription is measured if needed. We may need to shine a light in your eyes, but if you find this or any part of the eye examination tricky, please tell your optomitrist who will be able to help.

Health Check

The eyes are checked from the front including the lids and lashes all the way to the retina – this is carried out using a microscope which involves a bright light and holding a specialist lens in front of the eye to examine the inside.

If clinically indicated, we may need to use drops to dilate the pupils to get a clearer view inside the eye or use a dye to examine the tear film and front of the eye in more detail.   This is discussed with each patient at the time of the appointment

Advice and Recommendations

Once all the relevant tests have been carried out the Optometrist will discuss their findings and make their recommendations on any eye wear such as spectacles and lenses and also any advice on eye care.

They will offer the opportunity to answer any questions that you may have before introducing you to the dispensing team, who are the experts in spectacles and lenses.

Advanced eye examination

Eye exams can also help detect eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. These conditions can lead to irreversible vision loss if not detected and treated early.

We can also discuss with you our advanced eyecare plan and how that works if you are looking to book a sight test.
