CHILDREN’S EYE TEST LONDON
It’s really important to have your child’s eyes checked regularly to ensure their eyes are healthy, and to identify any vision support they may need early on.
The NHS recommends that children receive their first eye test before they start school, however at Coton & Hamblin we are able to test children younger than school age. We make it a fun and engaging appointment and adapt the examination to the age and interests of the child so they can receive the best eye care from an early age.

SIGNS OF CHILDREN’S VISION PROBLEMS
It can be very difficult to know if a child is struggling with their sight, so regular checks can spot anything before it becomes too much of an issue.
Some common signs to look for include:
- Getting very close to the TV
- Holding books, phones/other digital devices very close
- Squinting their eyes
- Rubbing the eyes
- Poor concentration at close up tasks
If there are any health or eye conditions that run through the family, such as high-powered spectacles or squints (turns) in the eyes, these can be hereditary, therefore we recommend you bring your child in sooner than school age.
If you have any concerns about your child’s vision or eye health please call to make an appointment.
School Eye Screening
Coton & Hamblin are part of the SE London Children’s School Vision screening. If your child has been seen by the school nursing team and is told that they require additional tests, they can be seen by us.
Please call to book and appointment and mention your child has been seen by the school screening team.
NHS funded children’s eye tests
The NHS funds children’s eye exams and contributes towards any spectacles or contact lenses that may be required. This is up to the age of 18 in full time education, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if your child is struggling.
